In April 2011, two single girls in Chicago met at a Boystown bar on a Friday night. Co-Founders Carly and Melinda decided to share their dating and single life stories on a blog and live lit show. Now retired as a live show after two years, the blog Solo in the 2nd City invites regular contributors to share their own solo Chicago stories and musings.
Melinda, Co-Founder and Executive Editor
Melinda lives in Pilsen alone with her rescue westies, Clark and Duncan, and a closet chocked full of high heels she never wears. Melinda has written for Gaper’s Block and the Chicago RedEye, and performed in live lit shows such as Guts and Glory, Salonathon, That’s All She Wrote, Write Club, Story Club, and many more. She wants to be the next Dan Savage.
Carly lives in Logan Square. You can find Carly writing at miss-spoken.com and performing live lit at shows about town.
Sam is an actor and writer, born and raised in Logan Square. Since she’s officially given up on getting that Columbia College acting degree, she’s been performing her own work lately at events including Salonathon, BYOB Story Hour, and The Paper Machete. Sam really enjoys crappy horror movies, bougie beer, the entire Real World/Road Rules Challenge Series, and acting like she doesn’t give a fuck. Which isn’t true. She actually has all the fucks in the world to give.
